Cases of caning children and badly injuring or killing them have been reported for some time now.
In a recent case, Kevin Kagura, a Standard Six pupil at Gathungo Primary School in Nyeri County, died on Wednesday evening, shortly after being caned by a teacher for coming to school late. Such actions should not be reported today in our country as they are against the law.
Teachers, who are also parents, should consider obeying the law and respecting children's rights. Those going against the law should be prosecuted as such severe corporal punishment violates both Kenyan law and international human rights laws.
