Brookhouse School

There are only two schools in Africa that are members of the prestigious Round Square, the world-wide association of schools that nurture students beyond academics. Both are in Kenya: The Starehe Boys’ Centre and Brookhouse International School – that architecturally resembles a castle straight out of a Harry Potter novel.

Members of Round Square – there are only 80 globally – uphold the ethos of internationalism, democracy, environment, adventure, leadership and service – read ideals.

Brookhouse, where caution money for borders is Sh200,000, and school fees per term Sh750, 000 – that can buy you a ‘brand new ka-Dubai’ rides every term – offers the British curriculum.

That, eventually costs a parent Sh9.1 million, for one child to complete primary and secondary education!

Brookhouse, which was established in 1981, was as you recall, venue for the presidential debates that were held at the world-class 450-seater auditorium before the March 4 general election.

Tusker Project Fame ‘nasty’ Judge Ian (Mbugua) teaches drama and music at Brookhouse, where notable alumni who studied under the motto ‘Learning to Excel’ include TV anchor Janet Mbugua – who won best inter-house drama competition with her script, And So the Story Goes.
