Education CS Fred Matiang'i has announced that teachers will start receiving their September salaries as from Monday 30/11/15.
Matiang’i says this decision was reached after having had discussions with the TSC Secretary and consulting with his colleagues the Attorney General & CS Rotich.
This announcement is a welcome breath of fresh air to the teachers who have been in a long battle with the government, through their unions KNUT and KUPPET, over a 50-60 per cent salary increase which led to a strike in September.
The strike led to the teachers missing out on their September salaries, a move which caused strong reactions, including suicide.
Matiang'i said he is looking forward to a consultative meeting with KNUT and KUPPET tomorrow morning and would spend the better part of the week meeting with and listening to stakeholders in the education sector ion a move which may end the stalemate which has hounded the education sector for a long time.
