The Cricket Normalisation Committee formed in March has announced it has finalised drafting the Cricket Kenya Constitution.

Through a statement on Wednesday, the committee Chaired by Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch (Rtd), said the process was complete after comments and views from stakeholders were gathered through a participatory process.

“The views were gathered through a participatory process whereby stakeholders met the committee either physically or virtually, and through receipt of memoranda,” read part of the statement.

The committee has also invited Kenyans to read the draft Constitution.

Apart from finalising the constitution, the Committee constituted by Sports CS Amina Mohamed on March 16 is also to organise and hold Cricket Kenya Federation elections under the new constitution. The Committee was also tasked with putting in place modalities for the resumption of Cricket Kenya activities in the country.

The committee is composed of the Chair Lady Justice Aluoch, Justice (Rtd) Alnashir Visram (Vice-Chair), Mrs Jane Muigai-Kampuis, Eng. Morris Aluanga and Dr Walter Ongeti have since overseen the return of cricket leagues and competitions.

The national women cricket team has also participated and won the Kwibuka Cup T20 staged in Rwanda, beating Namibia in the final on June 12.

The men’s team took part in the Pearl of Africa T20 Series at Entebbe Cricket Oval where they lost to the host nation by six runs during the Tri-Nation tournament that also featured Nigeria.

The Cricket Normalisation Committee’s mandates included:

•             Coordinating the finalisation of the Draft Constitution and ensure its validation in line with the requirements of the Sports Act 2013 and the ICC Statutes.

•             Ensuring the smooth running of Cricket Kenya’s operations including team preparations for local and international events.

•             Coordinating and facilitate the compliance of Cricket Kenya to the ICC requirements,

•             Facilitating the elections of new officials as per the validated Constitution.

•             Handing over Cricket Kenya to newly elected officials after a successful election.

•             Recommending to the CS solutions to the problems facing Cricket Kenya.
