Stop attacks on Kindiki: Njuri Ncheke elders issue stern warning to Gachagua

The Njuri Ncheke Supreme Council of Ameru elders have asked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to stop his relent attacks on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Led by their chairman, Adrian Aruyaru, the elders converged at their Nchiru headquarters in Tigania West, where they demanded that Prof Kindiki be accorded the respect the office deserves.

The elders who, way back in 2015, installed Prof Kindiki as a Njuri Ncheke elder expressed anger that Mr Gachagua and others were ‘demeaning’ him, and the presidency, by referring to him in unpalatable terms.

“Our son, the deputy president, is a son of Njuri Ncheke and deserves respect. We are angry that people are insulting him. It is not right. He must be accorded the respect because he is the DP,” said Mr Aruyaru, who was in the company of hundreds of elders drawn from across Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties.

Aruyaru said as elders, they were fully supporting President Ruto and his deputy, adding that Kenyans will have a chance to re-elect or reject the duo in the 2027 election.

“It is very wrong for someone to insult Kindiki in Meru, where he was born. He is the DP as we are talking. He and the President should be accorded the respect as they deliver their agenda for Kenya. In 2027, Kenyans will assess whether they have delivered or not. If they have delivered, they will be re-elected, and if they have not, so be it,” he stated.

He added, “The Njuri Cheke works with the government in power. We do not want divisions,” Aruyaru said.

Prof Kindiki’s rise to the national political scene is partly attributed to the Njuri elders who installed him as an elder and spokesman of the larger Meru community.

Led by their late Secretary General Phares Rutere and Chairman Paul M’Ethingia, the father of current Meru Governor Isaac M’Ethingia, the elders met at their Kijege Hills Shrine in Tharaka, where they endorsed Kindiki as the community’s spokesman.

Mike Makarena said Kindiki must also work to gain the support of the community, because the Njuri elders and residents of both Meru and Tharaka Nithi expect him to deliver development.

"Kindiki must ensure that the Meru people gain development projects, because if he is not doing that, Gachagua will continue to attack him," Mr Makarena said.
