Two prison warders charged with killing their female colleague have been released on a Sh2 million bond each with one surety of similar amount.
The High Court in Nakuru noted the prosecution had failed to give compelling reasons as to why the two should continue being detained.
Joseph Kairu and Raymond Kiplimo allegedly killed Carol Jepchirchir on the night of April 2 and April 3, 2019, at Subukia within Nakuru County. They have denied the offence.
Through their lawyers Tom Olonye and David Mongeri, the two had applied to be released on bond and or reasonable cash bail.
The prosecution had claimed the two might interfere with witnesses if released.

The court ruled that there was no affidavit sworn by any witness in the case that Kairu was a threat to them.
Justice Rachel Ngetich noted the claim of witness interference remain unverified and therefore cannot be compelling to warrant bond denial to the accused persons.
Article 50 (a), the court noted, gives accused person right to be presumed innocent until the contrary is proved.
“Each accused person may be released on bond of Sh2 million with one surety of similar amount,” the judge ruled.
