President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto’s plea to candidates who lost in the Jubilee party nominations to back the party nominees for various seats have born fruits in Kirinyaga County politics.

Kirinyaga gubernatorial candidate Anne Waiguru’s campaign received a boost from this move after one of her rivals Reuben Ndegwa who was running for the seat on a Democratic Party (DP) ticket dropped out of the race in her favour.

Ndegwa, who was Governor Joseph Ndathi’s running mate in Jubilee nominations, had decided to run for the seat on a Democratic Party (DP) after losing to Waiguru in the nominations, before making an about-turn.

His move comes handy at a time when calls by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto for aspirants who lost in the Jubilee nominations to support those who won get more intense in their campaigns.

Speaking in Eldoret over the weekend, Ruto said that Jubilee government will have many positions for those who lost in the nominations adding that their decision to run against their JP candidates is self-defeating.

Waiguru has also attracted the support of political heavyweights in Kirinyaga including former Gichugu MP Benard Kathanga is what could boost her numbers in Martha Karua’s backyard.

On Saturday, Waiguru urged Jubilee candidates to mobilise voters to turn out in large numbers to ensure every vote goes to the Jubilee basket.

She further called on the Jubilee candidates to work diligently to ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputies William Ruto win another term.
