Like everyone in the world, I had no boundaries or no limitations but I only knew of being white or black races. My blood like of any other human being was the same; I could not differentiate the color as we were the same. I was born knowing of no religion or no beliefs, knowing no tribe but I only knew I was a human being.

I was born not knowing my gender whether I was male or female, I was born not knowing the difference between albinism and non-albinism.

I never knew my tribe or culture. As I grew up I knew everybody around me was a relative and despite their names, I could call them dad or mom, grandmother or grandfather. I had cousins, relatives and friends from all walks of life.

This is the similar story to every child in this country. But look at the new us, the world has created us in a different angle, before you introduce yourself in a meeting people are already busy trying to figure out your tribe, and by any mistake if you have pronunciation problems as I do then I am sorry because everyone will start judging you from the spot as a Giriama, Kalenjin and not as a human being or a Kenyan.

The world has taught me stereotype that when I see someone the first thing that comes in my mind “is he or she a thief, does he/she like money or is he or she beggar a”. Now your second name is more of importance than your personality. Your name will dictate someone’s mind to give you a political party even if ‘you are not spiritually with them in their worship’ but they will force you to accept the religion courtesy of your name.

We must go back to the drawing board as Kenyans and change our ways of socialization and know where the rain started beating us. Are our brothers and sisters being socialized normally or abnormally? It is proved that no one is born with culture but we join into the system through the process of socialization; by this I mean if you are Maragoli and live with Turkana people then it means you are not a Maragoli but a Turkana because the values and norms inculcated in you were from Turkana people.

We should start looking at people not basing on their tribal names but the inner person in them. If people are being socialized abnormally then we must change the channels of socialization and the socializers to ensure normality, so that will look at the world as social animals and not with inhuman character.
