Three men masquerading as police officers were yesterday arrested in Mombasa and a fake pistol, and handcuffs recovered from them.
A fourth suspect armed with a gun managed to escape. Fake police certificates, identification cards and several ATM cards were also recovered from the suspects.
Before the arrests, the suspects engaged the officers in a shoot out. The officers were working on a tip off from the public who were concerned about a suspicious vehicle in Kisauni that was driving along the Mombasa-Malindi highway.
The fourth suspect escaped towards the Indian Ocean with bullet wounds.
A witness, said Mangi, said he was attracted to the scene by gun shots that rent the air for a period of ten minutes.
