The Moi University administration Monday evening announced the indefinite closure of its Main Campus following rising tension from campaigns ahead of Friday's students association elections.
The campaigns for July 17 elections are said to have turned chaotic as they took political and tribal lines.
Before the administration arrived at the decision to close the university's main campus at Kesses, students who had split themselves along the country's two main coalitions Jubilee and CORD had started pelting each other with stones.
Some of the rowdy students also threatened to attack the Standard journalist who had gone to cover the chaos.
In a communication to the students at 3pm, the administration gave them until 5pm to vacate the university premises until further notice, due to the unrest.

Some of the students however, said they would stay put because they had not seen the memo asking them to leave the institution.
