Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery to review ongoing curfew imposed in Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Lamu and Tana River counties as Muslims observe Ramadhan.
The President said the arrangements will ensure that Muslims fulfill their religious obligations without any impediment.
He also called on enhanced security agencies throughout the country during the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
“I have instructed the Cabinet Secretary and his team to enhance security throughout the country during this Holy Month. I have asked him to make all necessary arrangements to ensure that our Muslim brothers and sisters fulfill their religious obligations without any impediment”, read part of President Uhuru’s statement sent to newsrooms, Thursday.
He added: “In this context, the security agencies will review all measures, including the current curfew in the counties of Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Lamu and Tana River”.

The Head of State further urged the Muslim fraternity and its leadership to remain vigilant, and do everything in their power, to cooperate fully with the security agencies in order to safeguard the Holy Month.
The President at the same time asked Central Bank of Kenya to immediately issue comprehensive regulations that guide the operation of Money Remittance Providers (MPRs).
He added that he had been briefed on the progress of on-going investigations on the financing of terrorism, and that there are proposals to lift the suspension of licenses for 13 registered MPRs.
