Life is short and time is precious. Prevention is better than cure as they say. Before my intentions raise curiosity and my passion in writing generate a heated debate, the big question is, what happened to the boy child?

Most institutions and organizations are dedicating themselves to save the baby girl. Does it mean that our boys are less important or should be left out of the society? Imagine a society without responsible young men. Where young men are indulging in immoral behaviors. Drinking beyond their limit and early sexual behaviors.

This has led to high cases of sexually transmitted diseases and subsequently HIV/AIDS infection. I am of the opinion that we are tightening one end and leaving the other end loose. Therefore, ours is a lost generation.

As the boy child is neglected, cases of truancy and school drop outs has been on the rise. Most of non-governmental organizations are organizing behavior change process traininings in schools; targeting girls.

Moreover, they offer sanitary towels and train girls on the importance of sanitation. Little do they know that their kindness is dissolved by young men who impregnate our girls. This trainings and forums should be organized to both boys and girls. This will reduce cases of school drop outs, early pregnancy and rise in HIV/AIDS transmission.

As the saying goes by, make hay while the sun shines, there is a need to guide our children while they are still young. Who does the child belong to? This has been an endless debate that has not bared fruits. In the African set up, the child belongs to the society. Every community member is sole responsible in guiding the children.

There were occasions that brought people together and this helped in monitoring the young generation and giving them advice.

For example, in the Agikuyu community, a young man had to pass through a lot of screening before joining a club of men who took local brew. The local brew was referred to as 'Johi ' meaning something that tied people together. Today, our children can access alcohol easily and some are even drinking in front of their parents.

In the current world, parents need to collaborate with the teachers to help our young generation. Everyone in the society should take responsibility to make sure that the lost generation is restored. The administration and the lawmakers should enact laws that will help in guiding our children.

The non-governmental organizations and private sector should come in and help too. The church and mosque should teach moral values and give way as taught in the Holy book. In the end, we will have a srong and healthy society that will bring joy in our hearts and glory to God.

In my conclusion, it's also good for the learning institutions to form guidance and consoling desks. Some of the children have problems but they don't know whom to share with. The students should be encouraged on the importance of consoling at an early stage.

Learning institutions should also form clubs that will make children busy as an idle mind is the devils workshop. Regardless of the cost, let's all join hands in saving our lost generation.
