Nairobi, Kenya - President Uhuru Kenyatta has suspended Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission chairperson Mumo Matemu and vice chairperson Irene Keino from their offices pending tribunal hearing.
“They are suspended from undertaking all functions and duties of those offices with immediate effect pending the outcome of the tribunal, which will be set up in accordance with the law. This process in no way hinders the work of the organization which remains constitutionally established and operational,” read part of the statement by State House to the media.
This comes after the National Assembly recommended for their removal from the EACC on Wednesday. The MPs had also requested the President to suspend the two and set up a tribunal to investigate them.
130 MPs against 52 voted to send home the chairman of the EACC Mumo Matemu and his deputy Irene Keino. Three MPs abstained from voting.
