Sensational lady golfer Naomi Wafula (pictured) made it four titles in four years when she warded off stiff competition to win the Kenya Ladies Golf Open Strokeplay tournament played over the weekend at the Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

Zambia’s top lady golfer Melisa Nawa was the Silver Gross Winner with 153, after a stiff challenge from the Tanzanian trio of Madina Iddy (154) and Engel Eaton (155) who finished second and third respectively. Another Tanzanian Hawa Wanyeche beat US-based Kenyan Josephine Einley on count back for fourth   spot (157).

Sponsored by Kenya Orient Insurance Limited, this year’s tournament was biggest since it was a climax for the bi-annual All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) that brought together top amateur lady golfers to Nairobi. The main tournament was successfully defended by South Africa with Kenya emerging runners-up.

In the Silver Nett category, Rachna Patel of Sigona Golf Club emerged winner with 142 nett while Sarah Otolo emerged second with 144. Uganda’s Nasimolo Jenina beat Sarah Hoare of Royal Nairobi Golf Club on count back to claim the third spot (149).

In the Inter-Club category, Muthaiga Golf Club team comprising Christina Andersen and Jane Njoroge won the Leonard Bowl with a joint score of 340 while Royal Nairobi Golf Club team comprising of Wanja Kimani and Michelle Muhanda won the Modera Bowl with a joint score of 386. —eoyugi@standardmedia.coke
