MACHAKOS, KENYA: The protracted dispute over which county the Konza city should fall took a new dimension on Monday when Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi, dismissed the debate as fruitless.
Speaking to the Standard on phone, the MP took issue with his colleagues from both Machakos and Makueni side as missing the point by engaging in less important issue while they were supposed to ask when the project will be built.
''It is unfortunate that our leaders from the two counties are not focused enough to demand when the project will take off other than wrangling over which county it should belong to'' he said.
Mr Mwangangi appealed to the leaders to join hands and demand the commencement of the project other than fighting over a petty issue.

''The issue of where the city should belong should come later when its construction work is completed'' he added saying that the current wage of war was fruitless since the city was not in existence.
He said after all it did not matter very much the location of the city as along as its in Ukambani region since it will be a global business center.
''Our leaders should know that the Konza city will be serving beyond Africa and that the question of which county it should belong to was of no great concern'' he said.
The MP called on the government to clear the air over when the construction of the city will take off since the same has been long overdue.
He said any attempts to divert the project from Konza to outside Ukambani will not be accepted.
He called on the Ukambani leaders to be wary of the delay of the construction of the city and squarely focus their effort on that.
He warned that the current unnecessary wrangle and delay of the construction of the city may lead to unfortunate result of shifting of the project elsewhere.
