Busia County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong was yesterday ordered by a Nairobi court to pay Sh40,000 for upkeep of two children he sired outside wedlock.

The children’s court ordered the governor to provide the money to be used for buying food for the twins born in 2004.

The woman’s lawyer told the court that the mother, who is a single parent, was not in apposition to provide their basic needs.

Last month, the court issued an order directing the governor to pay school fees for the children who attend an international school.

Esther Mayieka filed an urgent suit at the children’s court through lawyer Danston Omaari seeking orders to compel the governor to pay for education, medical bills and provide shelter for the children.

Lawyer Omaari told the children’s court that the two children are desperate as they lack basic items.

The magistrate ordered that the money be provided for upkeep of the children pending hearing of the case on February 20.

The court was told that the governor is a man of means but had refused to take up his responsibilities.

Esther claims she cohabited with the governor from 2003, after which they got two children together.

The boys were born in March 2004.  She claims Ojaamong dumped her, moved out of the house they were living in together and tool  away  all the household goods.

After moving out of the house, Ojaamong provided upkeep inconsistently until 2007 when he stopped.
