Thika,Kenya: Thika Municipal Stadium risks missing out from hosting Kenyan Premier League (KPL) matches in the new season.
The KPL stadiums committee chairman Laban Jobita warned on Thursday that unless the playing surface is made to the required standards, Thika United will have to play their matches elsewhere.
“We have inspected the stadium and the playing surface is in bad shape. Unless they do something about it, no KPL match will be played there. It is too bumpy and can lead to injuries,” said Jobita.
A number of teams last season complained about the facility, which seems to deteriorate every year.
The County government of Thika owns the stadium.
Jobita also announced that the refurbished Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos has been given the green light to host league matches.
Three teams, Sofapaka, Mathare United and Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) want to play their matches at the facility.
