A lady aged 48 years who claimed to be a business lady appeared before Kibera acting principal magistrate Bernard Ochio for allegedly stealing from a patient at Nairobi hospital.

Ann Mugure wambugu was accused that on 16th August 2013 at Nairobi hospital jointly with others not before the court stole one mobile phone Samsung galaxy ace, handbag, national identity card, Sh11,000  in cash, medical smart card, Equity bank and Co-operative bank ATM cards all valued at Sh30,000 property of Naomi Chepwogen .

Naomi had gone for a physiotherapy treatment at Nairobi hospital where the accused offered to assist her enter the doctor’s room as she had difficulties walking. While assisting her the accused told Naomi that “I will pray for you and all will be well.” It is at this point that she left her handbag which she had carried her items with.

After the treatment Naomi realized her handbag was missing and she informed the hospital administration who reran the CCTV footage where they discovered the accused is the one who had stolen it.

From the footage the accused was seen taking the bag and making a call after which two ladies, who were identified as Susan Nyambura and Lucy Njeri, appeared with a huge bag where they put Naomi’s hand bag. They then left the premises. The Complainant told the media outside the court.

The accused denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 which was raised and she was bailed out. The matter will be heard on 7th March 2014.
