EPL: Arsenal manager says losing to Manchester City and Napoli has affected the team's positive mentality

Arsène Wenger has admitted that Arsenal have been psychologically affected by their first significant wobble of the season but is adamant that the “unbelievable focus” of his players will ensure they get through this period.

Arsenal have take just two points from their past three Premier League games and were also defeated in Italy by Napoli to mean that they must now face Bayern Munich in the last 16 of the Champions League.  Wenger’s team managed only two shots on target in drawing 0-0 with Chelsea last night and he believes that there was a hangover from the 6-3 defeat against Manchester City.

“I feel we were a bit edgy because we conceded six at Man City and that played in our heads at the start,” said Wenger. “In the second half we took control of the game and had two or three chances where we could have done better, but the games we played at Napoli and City had a little weight in our heads.”

Arsenal have also lost this season against Manchester United and, asked if there was a mental issue against the best teams, Wenger said: “I don't know if it's linked to the fact we've played the big sides. You question us. The last result at City played a part. We had the best defence in the league and, suddenly, we gave six goals away. So the defence wants reassurance. That's natural you'll have an edgy start.”
