Nairobi, Kenya: Renowned businessman and farmer Ezekiel Barng'etuny has died. Mr Barng’etuny passed on Friday in Nairobi.

The late was a longtime ally of retired President Daniel Arap Moi. He hails from Nandi County.

His death comes a day before the re-opening of Kimalel goat auction in Baringo County where he used to take part in auctioning.

President Uhuru Kenyatta mourned Barng’etuny saying death had robbed the country of a leader and politician who influenced the politics of Nandi County and the country in general in a remarkable way.

“The late Mr Barng’etuny was a man of insight and unique leadership qualities. His exemplary virtues of hard work and dedication to duty were an inspiration to many,” the President said.

Uhuru described him as a man of great humour and hard work.

“He was well known for his business and farming acumen in Nandi County. His death is not only a big loss to his family but the nation which he served with commitment and dedication,” he added.

Deputy President William Ruto also mourned the businessman.

DP Ruto said Barng’etuny will be remembered by many in his community and the Kenyan society in general who consulted and sought advice from him.

“He was a great mentor who inspired many young people especially those with political ambitions. Mzee Barngetuny  is credited with initiating several development projects within Nandi county and beyond. We will always celebrate his commitment to the promotion of education and entrepreneurship”, Ruto said.
