Kapsabet, Kenya: Two middle aged men have been sentenced to 20 and 19 years in jail by a Kapsabet Court for gang raping a mentally ill woman.
Marius Kipkoech and Joel Kipchirchir Korir were accused that on July 6, 2013 at Kabiyet Township within Nandi County, they intentionally and unlawfully raped Rhoda Jepkorir without her consent.
They were charged of gang rape contrary to Section 7 of the Sexual Offenses Act No. 3 of 2006.
The accused faced an alternative charge of Indecent Act with an Adult contrary to Section 2 A of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

In his plea to the court, the second accused Korir asked to be forgiven saying that he will not repeat the offence but the first accused, Kipkoech, chose to remain silent.
Passing the judgement, Kapsabet Principle Magistrate Beatrice Mosiria sentenced the second accused Joel Kipchirchir Korir to 19 and a half years saying that he had expressed remorse at his actions while Kipkoech got a 20 year sentence.
