NAIROBI; KENYA: Several banking institutions at JKIA lost unknown amount of money to the Wednesday fire and looting.
A check on some of the affected offices of the banks’ ATM machines, foreign exchange bureaux established some money was stolen and others destroyed by the fire. Also, mobile phone service providers and police offices were burnt down as well as passengers’ luggage.
A witness said she saw a vandalised dispenser and it is not clear who was harming it. Inside the building, there were burnt money, passports and other valuables, which were in individual luggage that were also destroyed.
The scene remained out of bounds as police launched investigations into the incident.
