NAIROBI, KENYA: The second day of the Manyatta Polo Tournament saw the favourites in both the Annesley Cup and the Mau Molo Cup go through unbeaten, on Saturday.
In the Annesley Cup, the DT Dobie team of Jamie and Topper Murray as well as Anthony and Tiva Gross were made to fight by the Liberty Kenya team of Gordy Millar, Stutti Millar , Quentin Savage and Cindy Voorspuy. Jamie Murray dominated the match and led his team to a 8-6.5 victory.
The Heritage Insurance team of Richard Stonewigg, Manyatta Captain, Henry Limb, Sarah Griffiths and Devin Shretta managed to turn the tables on Pepsi’s Peter Griffiths , Philu Salle, Manaan Madhvani and Raphael Nzomo. The tense battle on the pitch saw Heritage take an early lead and to hold on to it until the final bell with a score of 5 -2.5.
The Mau Molo Cup saw the 7UP Team captained by Martin Waiganjo, assisted by Harry Griffiths, Kaila Millar and Samantha McLellan, continue their winning ways by trouncing the Pepsi Lite team of Jonathan Stichbury, Dani Murray, Megan Griffiths and Hrishi Madhvani by seven goals to two. 7UP are the favourites to carry this trophy.
Meanwhile, the Mountain Dew team of Ashe Ahluwalia, Jojo Barlow, Suki Shretta and Tim Chesire managed to stay in the running after a convincing victory over Nissan Patrol, (Brian Perry, Craig Goodwin, Ed Burbridge and Rowena Stichbury). Mountain Dew won 4-2.5.
Polo continues today and onto next weekend when a visiting Ladies Team from Zimbabwe will take on a Kenyan Ladies select side. This should be a thrilling climax to the polo seasons first tournament.
“The teams are back with a bang and hoping for another exciting polo season,” Ahluwalia told FeverPitch.
The first event of the seaon attracted virtually all the top players and the upcoming ones as well.
