Kenya’s advertising industry got a boost after Scangroup was feted at an international awards ceremony.

JWT Kenya, an advertising division of Scangroup, won one of two international Radio Awards at the annual Cresta Advertising Awards ceremony, in New York.

The Cresta Awards, established in 1993 by Creative Standards International, in partnership with the International Advertising Association, aims to honour an absolute standard of creative excellence in the international advertising and marketing communications industry.

"This award strengthens JWT’s reputation, and will also help to put Kenyan creativity on the international advertising map," said Mark Fidelo, JWT Kenya’s executive creative director.

The competition attracted thousands of entries from 51 countries across eight key disciplines, including Press, Poster, Ambient Media, TV/Cinema/Digital, Interactive, Radio, Direct Marketing and Integrated Campaigns.

JWT Kenya’s commercial for Reckitt Benckiser’s Mortein Doom product scooped one of two Radio spots for its ‘Slow Death’ commercial.

"The spot features a mosquito which launches into a dramatic death-bed monologue, that goes on and on, until he is finally dispatched instantly by Mortein Doom. The payoff line ‘New Mortein Doom kills 4 times faster’ then pulls the whole concept together," JWT Kenya said in a press statement.

From the 51 countries participating in this year’s awards, 35 achieved finalists status. A total of 195 finalists were chosen.
