2014 World Cup seeding

World Cup 2014: The distribution of teams for next year’s World Cup in top pot will be decided by October’s FIFA ranking. The seeding which takes place on the 6 December 2013, will be different from the previous years where how well nations had done in past tournaments played a major part in who were ranked in the first pot.

The distribution guarantees Brazil, together with Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and Switzerland who have qualified for the tournament to be seeded in pot 1. While Uruguay could complete the final pot 1 berth should they overcome Jordan in the inter-continental play-off next month while a win for Jordan would guarantee Netherlands the final berth.

The FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking was also used to determine which teams were seeded for the European play-off draw for Brazil World Cup qualification that took place on Monday, 21 October 2013 Zurich. Where, the distribution of teams in pot 1 were selected from the four highest position-teams which were Portugal, Greece, Croatia and Ukraine while pot 2 included France, Sweeden, Romania and Iceland.
