President Ruto addresses a crowd in Makueni [PCS]

President William Ruto sparked laughter during a rally in Makueni County after playfully responding to a local MCA who confronted him over unfulfilled campaign promises.

During a rally in Emali, Makueni County, the MCA was heard reminding the President of several pledges he made to residents during the 2022 elections.

“You were in a place called Matutu. You told people that if both you and I were elected, you would build them a bridge. You also promised that all residents of Nguu would receive title deeds and electricity. The electricity project has started, but it’s moving very slowly,” the MCA said.

After listing the pending projects, he made a bold appeal, “If I’m truly your son here in Makueni, come to Matutu yourself, hand over the title deeds personally, and open that bridge.”

His remarks drew loud cheers from the crowd, prompting an amused response from the President.

Taking the microphone, Ruto directed officials from the Roads and Lands ministries to fast-track the two projects before his next visit in February 2026. Then, with a grin, he teased the MCA:

“But now you, MCA — you come to give me orders at a rally? Don’t you know I’m the President of Kenya?” he joked, sending the crowd into laughter.

He went on to add, “But you know, this is what we mean by bottom-up. You can see it happening right here — someone from the bottom pushing the one at the top,” before inviting Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya to greet the crowd.

The exchange quickly spread online, sparking debate. Some Kenyans applauded the MCA’s courage in holding the President accountable, while others viewed his tone as disrespectful.

“I like the boldness of that MCA! Holding leaders to account is our duty,” one user commented.
Another argued, “This was a blatant show of disrespect toward the presidency. The President’s reminder was justified.”

Ruto’s stop in Makueni marked the start of his four-day development tour of the Eastern region.

His itinerary focused on infrastructure and housing, including inspection of the Affordable Housing Project in Wote and commissioning of the Kasikeu and Mikuyuni Bridges.

He also issued more than 2,100 title deeds to residents in Kasikeu and launched the construction of the Emali–Ukia Road.

The President’s wider tour across Makueni, Kitui, and Machakos counties will conclude on Saturday, November 15, 2025, with a major leaders’ meeting.
