Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has drawn public outrage after being caught on camera hurling insults and issuing threats to a crowd that booed him during a political rally.
In the clip, which has been widely shared online, the legislator can be heard boasting about “walking around loaded” and warning that he would discipline anyone who crossed him.
“Wacha niwaambie, kama hamnijui, mimi hutembea kama niko full. Nitawatembeza! Kama mnataka kiboko mtakula,” he said angrily.
At one point, Nabwera demanded that a youth from the crowd be brought to the podium, appearing to challenge him directly.
“Leta huyo kijana hapa. Ebu mlete hapa, leta yeye hapa! Kwani yeye ana makende ngapi, na mimi nina ngapi?” he shouted.
He then turned to the audience and asked, “Mpende msipende, Ruto anaenda term ngapi?”, suggesting that President William Ruto would secure re-election in 2027.
The remarks sparked mixed reactions online, with many accusing the MP of disrespecting his constituents.
Tonie Elite on X wrote: “Leaders who threaten their citizens forget that the people are the very source of their power.”
Skip KE commented: “This is the lowest we can go. There is no other lower than this. Our kids will hear of these stories in the future and wonder what we had done to deserve this.”
Another user said: “Politicians need to know it's a right for every Kenyan to support whatever or whoever they want. If Kasongo has neglected them or local leaders are just looting, do they expect the people to be happy?”
This is not the first time Nabwera has publicly lashed out.
In 2023, during a function in Bungoma attended by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, he lectured the county’s residents for electing President Ruto.
“People of Bungoma, I must tell you the truth. You are the cause of our suffering. You stood with the wrong person,” he said then.
“You are now asking Raila to help. Raila Odinga, can you keep quiet? Let us suffer because of our choices,” he added.
The latest incident, now a huge departure from his previous political stand.
Before joining Parliament, Nabwera served in the Kakamega County Government as Chief of Staff/Advisor and as Chief Officer for Livestock and Veterinary Services.
