Police probe death of Nairobi mama fua after video shows last moments in Kilimani

Police in Nairobi are investigating the puzzling death of Zaituni Kavaya, a 'mama fua' who died in Kilimani, under circumstances her family insists were not accidental.

A postmortem conducted earlier this week revealed that Kavaya succumbed to blunt force trauma, findings that raised more questions than answers.

But a video circulating online has shed light on her final moments.

In the clip, a man wearing a white shirt is seen on the upper fifth floor of the building, briefly holding on to Kavaya before letting her go.

She manages to descend to the lower fourth floor and appears to interact with three women.

Moments later, she continues down to the third floor, where she is captured speaking with unidentified individuals before the situation seems to take a grim turn.

At the third floor, where the section is enclosed with glass panels, Kavaya appears to struggle to find anything to hold on to.

The exclusive images show her dressed in a blue outfit with red and black blotches, moments before her fall.

Her death has sparked outrage from relatives and labour activists.

On Wednesday, her family and members of the domestic workers’ union staged a protest, marching from her home in Kibera to the Kilimani building where the incident happened.

They later met Kilimani Police Commander Patricia Yegon, demanding justice.

“We have this case, and we are still investigating. Zaituni will get her justice,” Yegon told reporters.

The chilling video has intensified pressure on detectives to explain what transpired before the young woman’s death.

Five suspects from a family of Sudanese origin have since been arrested and are being held at Kilimani Police Station.

For now, her death remains clouded in mystery as investigators piece together evidence.
