The construction of interchanges at Ahero and Kericho will start early next year. Kenya National Highways Authority project engineer John Ndinika says the agency has secured funding from the government and the World Bank under the Kenya Transport Support Sector Projects to facilitate construction of the interchanges.

The interchanges will ease traffic flow and movement of goods in the region, which boasts of tea farming and processing and rice growing in Kisumu region. Ndinika noted that designs have already been completed and the project was awaiting award of tender.

The interchange in Kericho will be located at the junction of Kisumu-Kericho Road, Kericho Mau Summit Road and Sotik-Chemosit Road. The interchange in Ahero will be at the junction of Kisumu-Kericho and Ahero-Kisii Road. Construction of the interchanges will feature construction and maintenance of deviation roads and site clearance for the road reserve and earthworks for the main interchange carriageway and adjoining slip roads.

Other works will include construction of a reinforced concrete bridge. Once completed, the interchanges will improve the flow of traffic and reduce the number of accidents currently experienced.
