Officials from the Murang’a County Education office are investigating a case where a teacher allegedly beat and injured a secondary school student.
The probe into the incident at Kiru Boys High was ordered after a parent of the 17-year-old reported the matter to the office.
The incident is reported to have happened on June 26.
County Director of Education Annie Kiilu said a team had been assigned to look into the incident following the parent’s complaint.
“The matter is under investigation to ensure justice for the student,” said Ms Kiilu in a text message.

School principal Ciira Kiragu, however, said he was not aware of the incident.
“The only students out of school are those who we have sent home to collect fee balances,” said Mr Kiragu.
The student appeared before education officials last Wednesday and narrated his experience to the officials investigating the matter.
According to the student, his tribulations started when he was asked by the teacher to kneel next to the blackboard and his eyes soon started itching from the chalk dust.
The student said he was sent to the staff room to wait for the teacher, and that is where he was allegedly beaten up despite his pleas to be spared.
The boy’s parent said he learnt of the incident after a family friend saw the student at the Kiria-ini Mission Hospital.
“A friend called and said my son was walking with difficulty. I went for him to ensure he received specialised treatment from a reputable health provider," the parent said.
