Actor Bilal Wanjau has died while receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital, his family has confirmed.

Wanjau, who lived with type 2 diabetes, had been battling pneumonia over the past week and was also nursing a leg wound.

A family source said he was in Machakos on Sunday when he began complaining of pain in one of his legs, prompting relatives to rush him to hospital the following day.

“We brought him to the hospital on Monday, and they ran tests till Wednesday. The doctors were about to begin treatment before he passed on later in the night,” the source said.

He had been admitted on Monday and is set to be buried tomorrow in Machakos County, in line with family plans.

News of his death has shocked relatives and Kenya’s acting community, where he was fondly known as 'Blue'.

Wanjau is known for his roles this year as Batu in Kifo Kisimani, Uncle Georgy in Vienyeji Promax and Bonoko in Mtakatifu Bonoko.

His body of work also includes Aladdin the Musical, Too Early for Birds, The Comeback, Where Are You Madam, Tahidi High, Gavana, Hullabaloo Estate, and films such as Gamble of the Kid, Fly in the Web, and the Bollywood title Nakupenda Nakutaka.
