The Chinese Government and pay TV services provider StarTimes Media have launched an ambitious plan to drive digital television access in rural Kenya.
Kajiado County will pilot the project, which seeks to benefit over 30 per cent of Kenyans living in areas with limited or no access to the digital terrestrial signal.
StarTimes has already hooked over 120 households within Saina Village in the county to satellite digital television service.
Speaking during the official launch of the project at Saina Primary School in Kajiado County yesterday, Mr Sun Zhi Jun, the Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China noted that the Government of China plans to mobilize public and private resources in an effort to install Satellite television services for 10,000 African villages based on reality and cultural needs of rural Africa.
