Retired Bishop Lawi Imathiu has faulted the Government for failure to learn from the 1998 Bombolulu and the 2001 Kyanguli fire tragedies that claimed lives of students.

Dr Imathiu, whom former President Moi appointed to chair the Commission of Inquiry into the Bombolulu Girls Secondary School Fire Tragedy, claimed the recommendations his team made to the Ministry of Education are gathering dust in the shelves.

"It is unfortunate that we have lost two more lives in school fire. This is unacceptable," said the bishop who condemned Endarasha Secondary School fire incident where two Form One boys died two days ago.

The retired Methodist Church prelate said the commission made several recommendations that were endorsed by the then Education Minister but were never implemented.

He said deaths arising from dormitory fires could be averted if the recommendations are implemented.
