Despite the Covid-19 pandemic disrupting the sporting industry, boxing fans have been glued to their screens and enjoying some of the most awaited bouts in the squared circle.

They have enjoyed such fights as that of Saul Çanelo Alvarez stopping Billy Joe Saunders in Arlington Texas with an eighth round knockout.

But what could have been one of the biggest heavyweight bouts between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, which was to take place in Saudi Arabia on August 14 this year was cancelled, for now, after Deontay Wilder’s successful legal battle that will ensure his trilogy with Fury takes place.

The bout is set for July 14 this year at Allegiant Stadium in Paris, Nevada. The WBC and (vacant) The Ring and Lineal heavyweight titles are on the line.

Fury and Wilder first met in the square ring in December 1, 2018 at the Staples centre in LA, California with the bout ending in a controversial split draw.

The Gypsy King went through turmoil, thereafter, including being stripped of his boxing license. This led to Fury vacating his titles in October 2016. He would regain the license and cleared to fight again in December 2017.

On his return, Fury went on to win the rematch with Wilder by seventh round technical knockout on February 22 last year in Las vegas, Nevada. The bout was billed as unfinished business.

And now, after all the shenanigans the Wilder-Fury third fight is on the cards - the trilogy having been postponed last year due to Covid-19.

Fury, however, confirmed claims that he was no longer interested in the trilogy on October last year, citing difficulty in contractual negotiations and finding a suitable date for the bout. He moved on to Anthony Joshua seeking to unify the title

This, however, is off the menu after Wilder won the case to force Fury to face him.

This is both good and bad news for fight fans since the Fury-Joshua fight was already set to go down this August, but at the same time a trilogy will be very interesting since this will be a do-or-die for Deontay Wilder. Fight fans get ready for a very entertaining bout.
