It's Father’s Day, on this day, more than 80 percent of men will receive dilated messages on how they are great fathers. Those who are lucky will receive socks, boxers and vests as presents. Or cheap printed T-shirts. While such everyday utility stuff for men are normalized as gifts, it's pathetic if you look at it.
Well, men deserve gifts too. And I mean proper gifts. But women have been socialized to believe that men deserve less. Or that you need to love them less to get more from them. It's for this reason that women who gift men generously are seen as desperate. Or trying so hard to bribe a man into staying.
In 2020, actress Gabrielle Union, who is not even that rich according to Hollywood rich standards, gifted her basket baller husband Dwayne Wade a Ford Bronco. She said, "Don't think there's nothing I can't do for you."
Closer home, when a woman gifted her husband with a new Mercedes-Benz, relationship fortune tellers were at it. They spelled doom for the relationship. They predicted that the man will carry younger women in that car to undisclosed locations.
Its tiring if you think of it. Why can't women offer tangible and thoughtful gifts? Surprise him with a holiday get away on his birthday, have that customized diary with his portrait, get him the best car accessories that he has always dreamt of, have that man care package delivered in his office. If he's a lover of suits, Magdalena, you won't die of you gift him an expensive handmade suit imagine.
One lady on Twitter said that her boyfriend gifted her a piece of half a moon, which was the remains of a meteorite that fell in Morocco. At that point, I believed that men are the true romantics. Women suck at being romantics. All we do is expect to receive endlessly.
All I can say is that proper gifting needs to be a priority. It's classy, it shows you value that man and he deserves the best treatment. Even if it doesn't last, your gifting will go a long way to remind someone that they were loved and someone was thoughtful.
Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, may you be gifted endlessly and generously.
