Mandera County government on Wednesday morning received eight generating sets worth sixteen million shillings.

The generators donated to the county department of water and sanitation by Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA), a regional organization will be mounted on eight boreholes across the county to mitigate water shortage caused by the prolonged drought situation.

While receiving the borehole gadgets, Member of the County Executive Committee for water and sanitation Mohamed Omar Ali said the generators will be fitted in to serve only four out of the nine sub-counties of Mandera.

"The generators will serve over eighty thousand households in Lafey, Banisa, Takaba and Mandera East", he said.

The county water services boss said the investment from the different partners has been of great help to mitigate the looming droughts because the rains have failed.

"As a county, we appreciate any donation from all stakeholders because we no longer have any borehole that is unfunctional because of a generator or any other mechanical problem", he said.

"We are trying to equip boreholes, put standby generating sets, or replace the old ones that's why we have received well these generators donations", he added

The CEC has applauded other stakeholders' efforts like USAid and Danish Refugee Council Council that have previously donated to the county government.

Mr Omar said the county is quenching thirst at eighty-three water tracking centers across Mandera.

Yusuf Jimale Adow, the head of donations at RACIDA said the organization is also installing solar panels across the drought-hard-hit areas in the region.
