Over 1,000 families have been rendered homeless after police officers descended on a camp at Itare dam in Kuresoi South, demolishing structures.

Armed police officers invaded the camp at around 6:30am and asked the locals to vacate the area.

Simeon Cheruiyot, a local living at the camp said the officers went to the camps and asked them to remove their belongings before demolishing makeshift houses they had been living in for two years.

"The officers asked us to collect our belongings from our houses and leave immediately," Cheruiyot said.

The resident added that they were ambushed into vacating since there was no prior notice.
