Medical personnel from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) conducted a two-day free medical camp in Turkana County to address various challenges in the area.
Over 6,000 residents of Lokichar and Morulem were attended to by the KDF Medical Doctors and KMPDU personnel, who included consultant specialists, general practitioners, dentists, pharmacists, nurses and community health workers.
The medical personnel conducted cataract surgeries, screening of eyes, cervical cancer screening and general surgeries.
The KDF team of medical officers was led by Captain (Dr) Fanuel Ojwang’ while KMPDU was led by its Secretary General, Dr Ouma Olunga.
The event took place on May 31 and June 1.
Dr. Olunga appreciated the tireless efforts of KDF in ensuring the medical team and equipment from Nairobi and Eldoret were flown safely to and from Turkana County.
“We thank the KDF leadership for availing medical personnel to serve alongside the KMPDU personnel, as well as their aircrafts to convey personnel and equipment to Turkana,” Dr. Olunga said.
Government and County officials present during the two-day medical camp included Turkana Deputy Governor Peter Lotethiro, Turkana South MP James Lomenen, among others.
