MERU: A machine used to scan the brain has been damaged by unknown people at the Meru Referral and Teaching Hospital.

Governor Peter Munya said the CT Scan equipment had been destroyed by people who want his administration to fail in service delivery. Mr Munya said it would cost Sh400,000 to repair it.

"There are political operatives who are using staffers (at Meru Hospital) to sabotage service delivery. Now we will have to spend money to repair the damaged equipment," he said.

The county chief said the sewerage system at the hospital was also uprooted by the same people, who wanted to portray his administration as having failed in provision of health services.

"We are going to deal with the people who destroyed the CT Scan and destroyed the sewer. By doing it they hindered service delivery to persons in need," Munya said.

He added: "We are going to deal with them. Political operatives in Meru should not use underhand means to undermine the county government."

Munya took issue with the authors of an anti-county government pamphlet that was circulated to delegates attending the devolution conference last week.

The document, which had articles accusing Munya of various ills, including misappropriation of funds, was distributed to delegates in their hotels and at the conference.

"If someone has anything against us he should go to the anti-corruption agency or the auditors. Why are they operating against us in the dark?" Munya asked. Munya said the equipment might have been destroyed by a cartel that wants to supply equipment to hospitals in the country.
