I hated myself for one minute, cried the whole night but have come out stronger and determined, says Miss World Kisii County queen, Cindy Kemunto who has received a backlash over a picture that continues to circulate on social media.

Her complexion and choice of outfit played a part in the ridicule. Some people have defended Kemunto and lashed at those criticising her based on her complexion.

However, the 20-year-old Bachelor of Fine Arts and Design second-year student at Kenyatta University says the critics have actually given her an opportunity to shine and everything is moving on well.

Kemunto who is the brains behind ‘Keryl Cindy Arts’ says she deserved the crown and her target is to reach out to the youth and the community at large.

She says she doesn’t regret the choice of dress and shoes she wore during the just-concluded Kisii County Investment Summit.

Kemunto is the current Miss Popularity and Second Runner-Up Miss Kenyatta University 2015/16.

“From the 47 contenders, I managed to be among the last seven finalists of Miss World Kenya 2016. Auditions were held and there were several contenders from Kisii County who participated,” said Kemunto.

Thirteen ladies and eight gentlemen participated in the Miss and Mr World Kisii County respectively.

“I will just say that only those who have met me know what I can offer and the Kenyans who are proud of me know what I was born for. One bad single picture cannot deter me from achieving my goals. I am destined to achieve my objectives at the county,” she said.

A last-born in a family of three, Kemunto says things will get better. She says her elder sister, Celestine Nyaboke, has played a critical role in her life in the past one week.

“She has been encouraging me all through,” she added.

Through her ‘Kerly Cindy Arts’ Kemunto has done several fine artworks, a field she says is male-dominated.

“Naturally, people underestimate the power of a woman. The arts seem unbelievable for some people,” said Kemunto.
