Bomet County is known for producing world class athletes in field and track events, including reigning 5,000m commonwealth champion Mercy Cherono.
However, the county is grappling with shortage of sporting facilities. In the entire county, there is only one training camp situated at Kipajit in Sotik sub-county which is associated with one of the athletes from the area.
Many promising sportsmen and women are forced to travel all the way to Eldoret to get the much needed facilities.
The county had promised to set up sports academy at Tegat in Bomet East constituency but is yet to fulfill the pledge.
Given the pride and glory the county has earned through sporting, Bomet urgently needs sporting facilities continue shining.
