Kenya: Nandi Hills Member of Parliament Alfred Keter has vowed not to drop his impeachment motion against Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru despite what he terms intimidation from some Jubilee insiders.
Speaking at the weekend during Ndalat Gaa Cross Country race in Nandi County, Keter said he will not be threatened nor intimidated to stop standing up for Kenyans.
He said the Devolution CS needs to explain the loss of Sh791 million under National Youth Service (NYS) programme as taxpayers have the right to have an account of how their contribution is being utilised.
"Once again I will not be scared to speak the truth because all I have been fighting for since my election are the rights of Kenyan taxpayers. It would be irresponsible for me to sit aside and watch misuse of public funds through corruption and inflation of contracts," he said.
He added, amidst applaud from the crowd, that "nobody will stop this cause of accountability which every leader must portray."
Keter claimed the motion against Waiguru will continue next week in Parliament.
"It should be known that we have prepared enough milk, well fermented and ready for the ceremony next week," he claimed.
Keter argued his criticism of the Sh327 billion standard gauge railway and sacking of Kiplimo Rugut as National Youth Service (NYS) have been justified in the current turn of events.
"I was not against the railway project but the inflated single-sourced tender, just like Bungoma County locals are not against purchase of wheelbarrows but the high cost,” said Keter.
Keter also accused his counterparts from the Rift Valley region for failing to objectively represent their people by not standing strongly against graft and cried foul of intimidation from a section of the Jubilee coalition.
“My regional counterparts should stand up for the people without fear of intimidation, we should stop behaving like a poor girl married to a rich man who whenever she raises complaint she threatened to be sent back to her poverty-stricken home. We all see colour green on the happenings in this house but some say it is colour red when they are threatened,” he symbolically pointed out.
