Social media has been abuzz the past few days after the video of a woman stripped by Embasava sacco touts went viral. This particular lady was dressed inappropriately according to them and in a bid to teach her lesson, they stripped her naked. This unfortunate incident has not been taken lightly by a section of Kenyans.
A lady going by the name Paula Shee on Facebook, has sent an appeal to President Uhuru Kenyatta via Facebook saying, ‘Your Excellency Sir, below is a link to the two incidences that happened to our fellow women. Probably if you watch, it might have more impact than the mere words of description being forwarded to you. Kindly address this issue and stop our men from harassing us women, whether indecently dressed or not. To each their own and I believe only an idler will notice such and have the thoughts of undressing and sexually assaulting a woman while at it.’
There has been a rise in such cases in several parts of the county. Recently a woman in Mombasa faced the same assault.
Facebook group going by the name ‘Kilimani Mums Nairobi’ are set to stage a mini skirt protest at Uhuru Park on November 17 at 10am in support of the woman publicly stripped on Wednesday for ‘indecent’ dressing, and in objection to violence and sexual assault against women.
Kenyans have taken to social media to express their disappointment and a call to action using the hashtag #MydressMychoice
