A woman has allegedly killed her five-month-old baby at Kapkessum village in Elgeyo/Marakwet County to save her relationship with her lover.
Pamela Cheruiyot, 25, is said to have smashed her daughter's head with a brick, killing her instantly and dumped the body in a thicket two kilometres away from their home after her lover told her they would not get married if she does not get rid of the child.
Cheboror Chief Joseph Limo said the mother confessed to have killed the child so that she could be married by her lover, who is a casual labourer. The child was from a past relationship with another man.
Limo said the woman's relatives became suspicious after she was seen without the child for a week. The body was taken to the Iten County Referral Hospital mortuary.
