The Maisha Africa Nyte happened last night at the Mojos lounge and our very own Biashara star, STL, was to take the stage alongside Khaligraff and Kristoff.
However, STL was a no show and she took to her Facebook account to let her fans know why.
Attention: There wont be any #BIASHARA party at club mojos tonight. The promoter failed to follow the agreement. So I've cancelled it. F**k it.
This prompted a reaction from the club promoter, Hillary Ngash, who went ahead to state the requirements that STL was demanding:
Stella, do not lie to your fans, I'm aware of your preposterous demands. You demanded for two bottles of champagne, two bottles of Chivas Regal, and two bottles of johnny black and transportation from your place of residence and back! Makes me wonder (1) Were you coming to perform or to indulge in binge drinking (2) An artiste of your caliber should at the minimum afford his/her own transportation! You are such a disgrace and a let down with your chameleonistic behaviour! Anyways, we got khaligraph set to perform. Shame on you!
Sure, these two might have been a tad emotional but we had to get to the bottom of it. So we reached out to a source who has been organizing the Maisha Africa Nyte since its inception over 5 months ago.
SDE: So what’s all the drama going on with STL not showing up?
Source: *laughs* I think this has been blown out of proportion. Yes we had agreed that STL will perform on Maisha Africa Nyte on the said date.
SDE: STL says that the prompter did not keep his end of the deal, is that true?
Source: STL did give her specifications on the rider and while we agreed on all other aspects, we explicitly let her know that we could not provide the drinks she was asking for. Her requirements made no economic sense, with her drinks alone hitting 34K. We also let her know that she should arrange for her transport just like all other artists who have performed there.
If this was a paid gig, where the guests pay money to attend, that’s a different scenario. However, Maisha Africa Nyte is a free event. It was conceived so that Kenyan artists can have a platform to showcase their work. Additionally, they get promotion on the Radio Maisha platform.
We don’t even pay the artists to perform, the 30K given to them is just a token of appreciation. To be honest, none of the artist is worth just 30K, they are worth so much more. We have had the big names performing for their fans here at absolutely no cost. From Sauti Sol, Jaguar, Pitson, Eric Omondi, Jalang’o and many more.
When all is said and done, we have no hard feelings towards STL, she has a right to pull out if she feels her needs were not professionally met
We thank Kristoff and Khaligraph for turning up and making the night amazing.
P-Unit will be performing next month, same place and at absolutely no cost
SDE: Well then folks…there you have it.
