Kimilili Boys continued with their handball title defence by qualifying for the semi-finals after defeating a strong sided Laboret Boys 32-21 on the second day of this year’s Secondary School Term Two Ball Games ongoing at Kisii High School.

Kimilili also thrashed last year’s second runners up Makongeni  (Maroon Commandos) 25-11.

 Team’s coach Wagwa Wekesa saying the boys should have done better. “We have a strong team and have played against physically powerful teams but I thank the boys for upholding team spirit,” said Wekesa.

In another match, Mang’u Boys defeated Makongeni 18-15.

UNICEF talent centre Shimba Hills edged out Tetu Girls, 47-10 in one-sided match to qualify for netball semis. Shimba finished second in last month’s African Junior games held in Botswana. 

Coach Rose Onyango made several changes in the second half after team’s good display in half one .

Chepreitit Girls beat Kirigara Girls 16-8  while Misikhu hammered Nduluku 71-10. In Girls handball, Matuu narrowly beat Kirigara Girls 26-22.

Rugby 7s will be played today with defending champions Kakemega Boys drawn in pool B alongside Maseno, Menengai and St George’s.

The much awaited track events will be held today and tomorrow at Gusii stadium.  Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) secretary general David Ngugi said: “We have good athletes in the track events and we expect national team to pick some of them.”

Elwak Boys and Moi Girls all from Garissa failed to turn up due to what officials say was inter-clan clashes being experienced in the area.

This year’s championship has not attracted any sponsor with GTB Bank and KSSSA finalising negotiations for the bank to sponsor next year’s competition at a cost of Sh23 million.
