Nairobi,Kenya: Kisumu County government has been one week to improve waste management in the city or face protests.

Led by Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura , the leaders said poor garbage collection was caring away tourists and potential investors.

Speaking in Nairobi yesterday, Obura said should the county government fail to act, they would mobilise Kisumu’s more than 600,000 residents and traders to stop paying levies and also push for action through demonstrations.

“We will move there and flash out the county leaders. We are giving Governor Jack Ranguma and his team seven days to clean up the mess,” Obura said.

He said most affected sections of the town include parks, sidewalks, Oile market, the Jubilee market and the Kisumu Bus Park.

“Residents are grappling with open sewers, overflowing drainages and an endless pungent smell. We demand action,” he said.
