MOMBSA; KENYA: Two people died while five others were injured following an accident that involved four vehicles and a motorcycle at Kibarani area in Mombasa on Saturday evening.
According to an eye witness Fredrick Bunde, the accident happened at around 6 o’clock on Saturday evening when a trailer heading to town from Changamwe lost control and knocked a pickup truck, a matatu heading to Changamwe from town and a stationary Toyota Probox car which had earlier had an accident creating a fatal pile-up.
Bunde said that the Toyota Probox which was heading to Changamwe had lost control and rolled to the side of the road.
“The Probox lost control and started moving backwards before rolling of the road and an infant was thrown out through the window,” said Bunde.
Those injured were rushed to a Mombasa hospital by an ambulance which had arrived at the scene.
People gathered to help the people in the Probox when the lorry knocked the pickup, hit the probox, the matatu and the bodaboda.
The accident caused a huge traffic at the busy road as the police and breakdown tried to pull the wrecks of the four vehicles.
The driver of the matatu who came out unhurt said that the matatu had no passengers as it was only him and his conductor who had minor injuries.
"I wonder what could have been the case if the matatu had passengers since it was wrecked from behind,” said the matatu driver.
