The Cabinet has re-affirmed its position in support of the General Election scheduled for March 4, 2013.

The Cabinet, under the chairmanship of President Kibaki, met on Thursday at State House and assured Kenyans that the Government has facilitated the delivery of the BVR kits for use in the voter registration exercise scheduled for next month.

In statement to the media, the cabinet warned all vetting committees, registration clerks and chiefs to desist from asking for any money because the Government has gazetted that the issuance of new or replacement IDs should be done at no cost.

“Anyone charging the illegal fees for the acquisition of IDs will be dealt with accordingly”, read the part of the statement.
Among other issues discussed in the meeting is the 2012 Budget Review and Outlook Paper.

The Paper provides for a review of the performance of the budget and how the Government performed in the previous financial year.

The Budget Review Paper is supposed to be tabled in Parliament not later than 7 days after Cabinet approval.

The Cabinet also passed the National Policy for the Prevention of Internal Displacement, Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Kenya.

The Policy will provide a framework that will enable the country to prevent, manage and mitigate against internal displacement for whatever reasons ranging from conflict, other forms of violence, natural disasters, development projects or any other cause.

It also ensures protection of all Kenyans from arbitrary displacement.
