A Tanzanian national has been arrested on a bus at the border with a bulletproof vest and a facemask or balaclava.

The exact date of the man’s arrest is not known, but he is believed to have been detained by police as he tried to enter Tanzania last week after staying in Kenya for some time.

Msambweni District Administration Police commander Wilson Gichuhi told The Standard on Sunday that the man was arrested at Lunga Lunga in Kwale and handed over to Anti-Terrorist police in Mombasa.

The police believe terrorists have been supplying military materials to Islamist militants and other criminals in Mombasa using the border in Lunga Lunga.

Meanwhile all police officers in Mombasa were on Sunday ordered to report to duty and protect churches from possible attacks by terrorists in retaliation for Kenya’s capture of Kismayu. Terrorists and supporters of slain radical preacher Sheikh Aboud Rogo have bombed or torched several churches in Mombasa this year.
